To prepare for the launch of Workr Beeing, Katina and I made our way to San Antonio for a weekend of writing, strategizing, and fun! We wanted to provide you a behind the scenes sneak peek of our retreat.

Arrival

Since Katina and I are a bi-coastal team, we decided to pick a retreat location somewhere in the middle of the country. With a little research, we picked San Antonio! We thought it would be a good spot for getting some work done in cute coffee shops and seeing some sights we’ve never seen before. We were right!

We arrived and opened up our swag. A retreat is not a retreat without swag after all. We wanted to have fun with this whole process and that obviously includes wearing matching shirts.

We both arrived pretty late in the evening on Thursday so we just had enough time to catch up and identify our goals for the next day.

Day 1

We started our morning with a quick stop at The Alamo. Since this was our first time in San Antonio, we knew it was a must see. Honestly, neither of us knew much about it so we did learn a lot from our visit. We enjoyed the old architecture and the artifacts on display in the museum.

After our tourist stop, Katina and I wandered to Rosella Coffee to get to work. Well, after some food, of course! I had the Egg Cloud Sandwich and Katina enjoyed the Chicken Salad Sandwich as fuel for our work day. Everything we ate there was very tasty.

We spent the morning reviewing the site and building the “About” page content. We had already created a mission, vision, and values for Workr Beeing so we spent some time translating that and our story for all of you to read! We also wrote our personal bios, determined our list of initial posts, brainstormed ways to categorize them, and made some decisions and edits to the website. It was definitely a busy day! We rewarded ourselves with some avocado toast before taking a long walk along the river back to our hotel downtown. We had to make sure we were staying active since we are promoting wellness!

We walked and talked about our plans for the launch. We tried to start answering some key questions – what will our blog frequency be? How will we use social media? Who can we leverage in our networks to contribute to our blog and help us promote? We did a lot of productive brainstorming while walking along the beautiful San Antonio River. On our walk, we stumbled upon a really cute restaurant and bar, Ocho, overlooking the river. We decided to stop for a cocktail to celebrate our first day of work. It’s all about balance, right?

We ended our day walking along The Riverwalk and eating some delicious Mexican food on the water. It was a great first day in San Antonio!
We will recap Day 2 in a future post! In the meantime, let us know about your best work retreat or trip!
